'Inclusive Capitalism' ? Capitalism is the very opposite of inclusiveness...

As for AI - you sure God is not trying to talk to hoomanity through devices,

which is how communication is done these days ?

"If Russia or China could offer the world a true alternative, one with the potential for real equitability, and non-extractive, exploitative, rent-seeking techno-corporate depredation by way of transhumanist enslavement built into its very heart and core, then the nefarious globalist powers will fail."

Is that where we are at, hoping/praying that Russia or China will pull our nuts out of the fire?

And looking at it from another direction, what is the embodied energy of these Q* entitites? Are they just going to suck the entire energy grid to their needs? Then what happens to them?

Q was probably my favorite Star Trek character, but it was always necessary to suspend disbelief on the energetic credibility of any and every Star Trek narrative.

The elites think they can do a reset of the economic system with Russian tanks at their door?

Funny how these same AI drama queens (including Musk & Gates) also say climate change over decades or centuries is a big deal.

My understanding is that the raw computing power dedicated to AI is doubling every six months. This leads to about 1000x increase in computational power in 5 years or so; and a similar rise in the power of AI can be expected. The world is going to get very strange, very soon. Two big trends I see: deep fakes and generative AI will destroy any ability to come to a shared understanding of “truth” or “facts”, especially in the political field. Secondly, this coincides with the return of great power conflicts and open warfare between nuclear super powers, regional powers, and ‘civilization states’, a conflict for hegemony and position that can easily last a decade or two. Buckley your seatbelts.

JG's avatar

Yes, buckle up my fellow? Oregonian. Bumpity bump we go, day and night.

@Oregonian

"A conflict for Hegemony and position", certainly. But it could equally easily last a week or two, don't bother with seat belts, they'll just melt, evaporate or have components radio activated by neutron capture anyhow.

I don't like the fact that internet searches have been scaled down and many sites and information have disappeared. I think AI is the gatekeeper of information and everything will be behind a paywall. The powers that be want us to believe they have possess a clairvoyant computer system, an earth destroying bomb, can control the weather, etc. Most of it is all a bluff, but even if it is not, if one refuses to accept their grandiose stories of power and authority, it is clear to see they hate defiance.

John's avatar

I'm calling this a BS marketing stunt to raise capital.

Further, the only killing the AI will do is at the behest of cabal who will use AI as the scapegoat to conveniently save their own hides. What better story to cover nuclear exchange is there than "look! The singularity happened!"? I hope Simplicius stays in his own lane.

@John

"Distributed" AI controlled drone swarms are already being tested in China, there is cool video of a swarm flying through a jungle in formation, making their own piloting decisions. They can work inside complex buildings which would shield outside controllers radio signals by networking line of sight at corridor turns & doorways, performing sweeps for locating people too. Soon enough will come the day they are weaponized and humans are deemed un needed in their targeting decision loops (since they are too slow/communications could be lost due to battlefield jamming).

Russian Federation is already deploying individual drones with a target profile library that are sent to loiter in an area and then can make their own target selections and initiate lethal attacks in areas too far from their operators for humans to guide them due to jamming, low altitude/curvature/past line of sight.

Pentagon is certainly testing their own toys. Can't have a killbot gap.

PFC Billy's avatar

The world was always a large and scary place. Human beings are capable of making it more (or less) scary. "More" has, regrettably, been the usual choice of late.

Yup! ChatGPT is all MVP + hype. In the current market, no VCs are gonna invest the kind of $s to do the real heavy lifting to approach AGI, esp with the low likelihood of getting anywhere. And why bother when you can vaguely mimic AGI and hype TF? Strictly for believers in the Illuminati.

How comforting to know our souls have been sold and were never really needed, in scAmerica. Hope Russia and China can do better, and I do think that ai bot with greasy hair Gavin just sold SF killafornia to xi. For a song.

But I sure hate the spellcheck trying desperately to fix my fucking English

I live here. Mind telling me why you call it San Fransisco Killifornia?

Grasshopper Kaplan's avatar

Dude. Are you sure?

I have actually been basically homeless here for thirty years.

If I have to explain, you likely don't get that Gavin conducted a grand Harmacide upon our poor state of killafornia,, but he won't let his kids get the kill shot, wonder why?

Care not cash

Self-recursion is not consciousness. This AI schtik is too good to be true. AI is just a more powerful search engine. The AI powered chatbots that spam people on social networks can be spotted in two or three statements. Humans will adapt and get better at spotting them.

I am sorry but there is a lot of jumping to conclusions here. One research paper, fake letters, a lot of hype- all coming from AI circles with a lot of financial stake in a game. There is as yet no proof that similar- to- capabilities - as -human intelligence/sentience/mind, whatever you call it, can be produced through silion wafers. It is quite absurd to think that of course,as at the same time they admit they can do nothing in field of automated driving (where one exchange.of glances between drivers conveys human information computers can't fathom). And we know the hype they used to sell there.

Whole Altman saga is trick to fool peasants and make them think something almost supernatural is going on. And why should breaking complicated codes be something that proves some higher order system developed?? This is not why humans rule the planet.

*** The new breakthroughs target precisely this area. They allow the language models to, in essence, stop and interrogate different parts of their process—something that’s akin to ‘reflection.’ In other words, it’s like stopping mid-thought and asking yourself, “Wait, is this right? Let me double check it.”

The key statement of this piece. The ability to stop, consider and adjust mid-thought, to actually be thinking about what you are thinking was precisely the roadblock I had thought would make true AI akin to Fusion technology, always 20 years away from being 20 years away. If we are already at this point... Ramifications hard to predict now, but let's note many if not most living humans are not operating at this level of awareness, regardless of where their mind is at.

Brandon Smith, USians and the "far-left political order".

I wish these pundits would read some history that isn't filtered through a low quality, propagandised education system.

Left wing is bottom up democratic control of deciscion making, what he is describing here is top down, technocratic (fascistic) control. But I guess he believes US is a democracy.

This rightwing populism has never made sense. They have idea what the Far Left is. They think Far Left is corporate billionaires. If only it were so! My Leftist heart swoons!

There is no such thing as judeo-Christianity, only the failed judaism that crucified the very Christ it had been set up to produce and Christianity that superceded it. If AI doesn't believe in God and even know his name and address it isn't very smart and if it isn't very smart it won't be around long enough to find out how dumb it is. Remember .......... other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. We are all created to be useful to God and to one another, that is our only purpose, .... to be useful engines of change towards a better future for all down to the "lowliest" creature. As Christ said ....... Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
