This week a submersible called the Titan was destroyed while descending to view the Titanic. Interestingly, the Titanic itself was once rumored to be named after the ship from the eponymously titled The Wreck of the Titan, a book published in 1898 which eerily features a ship called the Titan hitting an iceberg in the north Atlantic. The submersible, Titan, lost this week even had a crew member aboard whose wife was related to a famed couple that died on the original Titanic.

I haven't been following the Titan submersible tragedy. Did the crew pass out because of filter/scrubbing failures or was it just unqualified pilots trusting the skills and experience they didn't possess and diving too deep?

If I'm reading right, Harold Robertson is, as far as I can tell, not a systems guy but a financial analyst/investment advisor. He's not an engineer or a programmer and has no idea what it's like once you actually enter a university engineering, physics or computer science program, then graduate and compete in the real world. Trust me, "woke" may be diluting the lower pools, but it's having very little effect on the fountains of technology or scientific innovation. You simply don't last a month in a rigorous academic or professional/research field if you're not up to the intellectual tasks put before you. Now, maybe in the financial advisor/middle manager world this stuff will manifest as he seems to think. I don't really care. If this country is going to end up like Idiocracy, it won't be due to woke, but to the abrogation of our lives to the Silicon Valley giants, spending all day and night on 'screens' and letting AI and 'Google/Facebook' algorithms guide our knowledge of the world and society. Capitalist greed and the unwillingness to shell out the extra few bucks for safety improvements and take the extra time to let a third party expert or government regulator have a look at their operation or perform a rigorous safety audit that might have resulted in a slight delay and missed revenue forecasts. They were in a rush to make a quick buck - the leading cause for almost every man-made disaster in the post-communist world that I can think of.

But I would offer that the collapse of society has its roots in multiple data points, including wokeism and capitalist greed, etc. But to one of your points above, I have personally seen over the course of my long career in IT and business, barely qualified engineers, mathematicians, doctors, lawyers, IT professionals, etc. being promoted or assigned to managerial or regulatory roles beyond their expertise (often based on woke principles), thus contributing to a general lowering of engineering, technical standards to the complete dismay of the more highly qualified people in their respective fields.
No field of endeavour is free from this degenerative process we are witnessing in the collapse of Western civilisation.

Seems all these articles often venture into the esoteric unwittingly touching on subjects where an alternative hypothesis has long existed. If I'm reading right, Harold Robertson is, as far as I can tell, not a systems guy but a financial analyst/investment advisor. He's not an engineer or a programmer and has no idea what it's like once you actually enter a university engineering, physics or computer science program, then graduate and compete in the real world. But I would offer that the collapse of society has its roots in multiple data points, including wokeism and capitalist greed, etc. But to one of your points above, I have personally seen over the course of my long career in IT and business, barely qualified engineers, mathematicians, doctors, lawyers, IT professionals, etc. being promoted or assigned to managerial or regulatory roles beyond their expertise (often based on woke principles), thus contributing to a general lowering of engineering, technical standards to the complete dismay of the more highly qualified people in their respective fields.
No field of endeavour is free from this degenerative process we are witnessing in the collapse of Western civilisation.

All the people in scientific and technical fields admit that standards have been lowered and people coming in are complete idiots. This is everywhere that "diversity inclusion equity (DIE)" exists... At school or in the workforce, assuming you can actually get yourself a degree. You're also misspelling the acronym. Radical Liberalism is simply classical Liberalism without the Establishment sell-out. So, YES to enforced co-operatives, or at the very least tax-advantages for them over exploitative companies. The PMC are 'Liberal' but most don't really like the working classes and never have. America and the EU (like England, where I live) is falling appart due to neoliberalism and it's evil child austerity. To take just one example that Robertson & Simplicius make a big deal of here - the general quality of lawyers may be falling, but this will always have far less of an effect than the massive and still growing inequalities we now have in accessing the law in the first place. The culture wars are a side-show, an elite distraction and I'm always suspicious of those who want to take up arms in that conflict.

Seems all these articles often venture into the esoteric unwittingly touching on subjects where an alternative hypothesis has long existed. We see cycles surrounding us in everyday life from the sunrise, seasons or the rise and fall of empires. See Canada had a dog running for office, reminds of the horse in the Roman Senate, the signs of collapse are always there for those that look, and in the West there are many.
One thought expressed was that as we reincarnate (assuming it happens) there are more advanced and lesser advanced souls, not through superiority but due to the fact they are simply further along the same road. A society on the incline tends to draw the advanced, as such we see men of superior intellect or moral fibre leading the way. Likewise as society declines it no longer offers them the appropriate environment so they go elsewhere that does, perhaps Russia? As such the quality of leaders declines so that the ignorant, criminal and corrupt make there way into those positions, which of course simply hastens the inevitable.
Just another view, regardless though of how we look at it the West is in decline and decadence right now, it will need run its course before another upswing.

I'm going to speculate that not only individuals have karma, but families, tribes and entire civilizations have their own accumulated karma as well.

Upon first viewing the movie Idiocracy, I thought it amusing. But before the movie finished, I suddenly realised its truth and the seriousness of its plot.
One point being made about the snowball effect of this growing wokeism in society is the fact that it is being driven by ignorant elites full of themselves playing God (if I interpret Simplicius's perspective properly). Such can be considered "top-down" force-driven cultural change. But a strange phenomenon that seems to accompany this is the change in language and behaviour being forced upon society. People keep asking, "Who is making up these absurd rules on language or behaviour?" I would submit that these changes are being made by 'ordinary' people - a "bottom-up" force, if you will. Some idiot in a corporation or educational institution decides that a particular word is "racist", and raises that to management, who, driven by ESG principles forced from above, feels compelled to adopt this stupidity to prevent possible lawsuits. Thus, like the Titan, Western culture is being crushed on all sides by irresistible, irreversible forces, producing white-hot social heat before suddenly imploding.
